About Bleed in Files

What is bleed?

Bleed is the extended size of a file past the final printed size.  For example, if you’re getting a business card printed and the final size is 3.5 x 2″, the file needed to be provided would be 3.75 x 2.25″.  Bleed needed for all files is a quarter inch (1/4″ or 0.25″).

Why is bleed important?

Bleed makes sure your design goes all the way to the edge of the paper.  Let’s say you provided a document without bleed and had it printed, a white border would likely show up.
